Suggestion - Multiply the Chord Pad Grid

Postby sj1 » Thu Jun 08, 2017 1:18 pm

Hi.

I'm loving the program! Thanks your all your thought and effort in creating it.

This suggestion is aimed at enhancing NC in a way that will support the user in playing a full song - i.e. a set of chord progressions such as Verse A, Verse B, Chorus, Bridge, etc. from beginning to end.

There are surely many possible ways to represent this, and I have not thought deeply about all the alternatives. Here is one "off the top of my head" that hews close to the existing design (IMO).

We currently have 1 set of 16 chord pads, and a way to create a single progression (first filled pad to first empty pad).

How about multiplying this to, say, 16 sets of 16 chord pads. Each one of the 16 sets could function exactly as now, but the user will be given a way to move between the 16 sets. Thus, each *set* can represent a song section (Verse A, Verse B, Chorus, Bridge, etc.).

We could use a "multi touch" method:
touch 1: (on a new, small control) to toggle between "normal" mode and "set select mode"
touch 2: select one of the 16 sets
touch 3: (optional) toggle back to where you were (or, this could be automatic after touch 2)

Or we could use a "one touch" method:
a separate, new control interfacing the choice of the 16 sets

I know I would find this ability (in either form, or in another) to be VERY useful - essentially completing the ability to create and jam to a complete musical performance (song) w/o having to manage the chord changes one-by-one in realtime.

For your consideration ...

Hello Steve,

I'm glad you like Navichord!

As for the Song mode, this would certainly be the next step for Navichord. In fact I was picturing the same structure as you described - 16 parts of 16 chords. I've worked out the UX concept and will start implementation soon!

Hi,

I didn't see the invite message just above (?), but I was notified by the App Store of the NC 2.6.3 update and I've downloaded it.

Wow! Super implementation!

I really like what you've done here Denis, my hat is off to you!
